Coffee no Seki at Suzuki Shoten Beijing with Ren Nakane

Artists with whom we share a connection—and galleries both at home and abroad—come together to create moments of coffee and sweets. We also host an exhibition of artists here at Kurohime. Experience the ambiance of those moments, the people you can only meet in that place, the fleeting instants as time shifts, the utensils crafted for coffee and sweets, and the display arrangements. We present these records.

Coffee no Seki

 Location: Suzuki Shoten
 Co-hosted by: Ren Nakane

To Neinei, Judy, Ren, and Hanako at Suzuki Shoten. And to all the staff. With your warm support, we were able to create a shared moment with our Chinese guests.

For my wife, who handled the sweets, it was a major challenge. Unable to prepare the sweets in Japan beforehand, she visited local markets to source seasonal ingredients in Beijing and cooked them on-site.

She transformed ingredients not typically eaten as sweets locally into a dish that delighted everyone immensely.

What also left a deep impression was how the customers present quickly became friends, exchanging opinions about coffee and sweets. It was a different kind of time from Japan, and I learned and gained a lot.
